Top 10 Highest Paid Athletes
We always hear about the abnormal salaries that modern day athletes make. Forbes.com has released their full list of the world's 50 Highest Paid Athletes recently, and I'm surprised about some of the top earners this year. Tiger Woods taking the #1 spot after his tumultuous year in the media is definitely a shocker for me. I was pretty sure that not only his tarnished image but also his less than stellar performance and loss of major advertising deals would affect his earnings. This seems not to be the case as Tiger is well ahead of everyone else on the list by $20 million.
#2 on the list is Kobe Bryant earning a cool $53 million and another NBA All-Star and Nike athlete, Lebron James, at $48 million. I assume King James took somewhat of a pay cut in order to obtain an NBA Championship this year in Miami. The list rounds out with a combination of soccer, golf, tennis and baseball stars. None of the NFL players made the top 10 list – which may be why the NFLPA is in the dead heat of a lockout.
The Top 10:
1. Tiger Woods, $75 Million
2. Kobe Bryant, $53 Million
3. LeBron James, $48 Million
4. Roger Federer, $47 Million
5. Phil Mickelson, $46.5 Million
6. David Beckham, $40 Million
7. Cristiano Ronaldo, $38 Million
8. Alex Rodriguez, $35 Million
9. Michael Schumacher, $34 Million
10. Lionel Messi, $32.3 Million
