‘Team America’ Trend Erupts on Twitter in Wake of Kim Jong-il Death
North Korea's enigmatic leader Kim Jong-il passed away on Saturday at the age of 69 from a heart attack. In the wake of his death, Twitter feeds have been dominated by the reference of one of his most prolific 'appearances' -- we're taking about 2004's hit movie Team America: World Police. The movie, produced by South Park's Matt Parker and Trey Stone, depicted a marionette version of Kim Jong-il as an out of touch and ludicrous dictator trying to take over the world. So, what's the big deal? Quite frankly, Team America was arguably responsible for introducing many people to the North Korean dictator for the first time. The film went on the gross $50 million dollars worldwide while openly mocking Kim's limited english. As the world awaits the fate of the volatile nation, we can at least treat ourselves to a solo from the singing dictator. Too soon?
