Chaos At Stores! Thousands Battle Over New Air Jordan Sneakers
Behold! The sneaker worth dying for. I remember my first glimpse at the Air Jordan 11 "Concord" sneakers. It was 1995. I was a teenager watching Michael Jordan take on a young Shaquille O'neal and the Orlando Magic in the NBA playoffs. Flash forward 16 years later, madness broke out at stores across the U.S. as fanatic shoppers attempted to get their hands on the first re-issuing of the prized shoes that went on sale for $180 this morning. If you thought the Black Friday shopping fights were crazy, then just look at what happened when the re-issue of the coveted Jordans hit the store shelves. In Seattle, police used pepper spray to subdue a crowd; four people were arrested in Atlanta, Georgia; fights broke out in Louisville, Kentucky, and unruly crowds forced two stores to shut down in Austin, Texas. Additional fights broke out at malls in Charlotte, Indianapolis, and Troy, Michigan where a boy suffered a broke arm after being trampled from a crowd rush. Good times.
