Bear’s Receiver Sam Hurd Arrested on Federal Drug Charges
It seems that even professional athletes want to channel their inner Tony Montana. NFL wide receiver Sam Hurd was arrested Wednesday night and subsequently charged with one count of conspiring to possess half a kilogram of cocaine with intent to distribute. The Chicago Bears receiver earned $2 million this year on the field, but met with an undercover agent posing as a dealer to obtain 5 to 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana every week in order to distribute through the Chicago area. During the meeting, Hurd even went so far to express his desire to become a drug kingpin. He was also allegedly looking for a cellphone from Mexico because he believed that it could help him evade federal wiretaps. Hurd left the meeting with 1 kilogram of cocaine on his person and was eventually picked up for arrest in a nearby parking lot. Read the full story at the Chicago Tribune.
